The Great McCain Story You’ve Probably Forgotten

Maybe deep down there, the old McCain exists. The one who opposed tax cuts, the one who was against Bush’s war policies, and the maverick who was willing to cross the aisle where no other Republican would. Admittedly, I disagree with McCain on most issues but at least he is one of the few Republican candidates with sanity. He recognizes climate change and opposes torture. He knows war and he knows he is a hawk. Unlike other presidential candidates who attempt to hide their policies, we know what we can expect from a McCain presidency: war. Maybe there is some truth to that Straight Talk Express. However, let us not associate sanity with liberalism or moderation.

It is heartening to know even the Republicans have chosen an honest candidate rather than the lying-through-his-teeth Mitt Romney or the fascist Rudy Giuliani. It is hearting to know they did not elect the madmen; Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul. While it is interesting to know that the most conservative candidates of all, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter withdrew early.

So this is a toast to the old McCain, the one who visited Mo when no one else would. He put politics aside and saw people as human. So for once, let us put politics aside and realize that being a Republican does not equate you to demon nor vise versa. We are men, each to choose his own views and beliefs. Let us be free, yet let us love.
